GST Council 45th meetings today: An important meeting of the GST Council is going to be held today. This is the first physical meeting in the Corona era. The meeting will be chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Today’s meeting has been organized in Lucknow and many important decisions can be taken in this meeting. It is believed that in today’s meeting, the decision to impose GST on the restaurant service of online food delivery companies like Swiggy and Zomato can come. In other words, platforms like Zomato and Swiggy will be treated like restaurants.

According to different reports, the government’s idea is to impose 5 percent GST on the service of online food delivery apps. If this proposal is approved, then such apps will have to collect tax from the restaurant and submit it to the government. There will be no burden on the consumer.

Will consider bringing petrol and diesel under the ambit of GST

Apart from this, a decision can also be taken on bringing petrol and diesel under the purview of GST today. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman herself has given her opinion on this issue. If this proposal is placed in the council, approval will be required from three-fourths of the panel for approval. Representatives of all states and territories are involved in this. Petrol and diesel are touching the sky at this time. In most cities, the price of petrol is beyond Rs 100 and diesel is also close to Rs 90.

Petrol will sell for Rs 75 if GST is implemented

The government is earning a lot from petrol and diesel. The income of the central government has increased by 88 percent due to tax on petrol and diesel. By March this year, this earning had reached 3.35 lakh crores. Last year the excise duty on petrol was Rs 19.98 which has been increased to Rs 32.90 this time. Similarly, the duty on the price of diesel has also been doubled. Last year this duty was Rs 15.83, which has been increased to Rs 31.80. According to the report, if petrol and diesel are brought under the purview of GST, then the price of petrol will come down to Rs 75 and diesel to Rs 68.

Decision may be taken to reduce GST on 4 dozen items

In today’s meeting, a decision can be taken on changes in GST applicable on about 4 dozen items. Apart from this, it can also be considered to extend the tax exemption period on medicines used in Corona till December 31.
