The sale of air conditioners (AC) used in homes has declined due to unseasonal rains. AC sales started booming in mid-February this year itself after the temperature rose. Now after March 15, AC sales have been affected. However, AC manufacturers consider this to be short term and are hopeful that after the onset of heat wave in April, the decline in AC sales will end and they will achieve their sales target.
Companies expected bumper sale
The AC industry had made a record sale of 82.5 lakh units in 2022 and this year, the growth in the AC industry was expected to be in double digits after the very early rise in temperature and similar forecasts. Panasonic Life Solutions India said that there has been a slight decline in its AC sales due to unseasonal rains. However, there is still a lot of summer left and unless there is abnormal weather, it is expected that we will achieve our target, Gaurav Shah, business head of the company’s AC group, told PTI.
Asked about the impact of unseasonal rains, Daikin India Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) KJ Jawa said market sentiment may change for five-six days. this is temporary. He said that it will not make much difference. There is going to be a lot of demand in the market. There will be more than 20 percent growth in the market this year.
What does the industry say?
At the same time, Satish NS, President of Haier Appliances India, said that the drop in temperature has given them enough time to prepare their strategy. He said that it is expected that the weather will clear in the next few weeks and the demand for ACs and fridges will increase.
At the same time, the Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA) said that there has been a setback in sales in the second phase, but it is temporary. Eric Braganza, president of SIEMA, said that there is going to be a very hot summer in May. All the reports are indicating the same. On the other hand, Voltas said that there has been rain in some parts of the country in the third week of March.
It is too early to estimate the sales of these products which will run till June and till July in many parts of the country. On the other hand, the Tata group firm said that these products have to be kept in advance, so that it can be consumed immediately in the market after a sudden heat wave.
