This is how love started
Waheeda Rehman used to work in South films before coming to Bollywood. On the other hand, when Guru Dutt saw Waheeda Rehman for the first time, seeing her beauty, he made up his mind to bring Waheeda Rehman into Hindi cinema. Guru Dutt’s first look at Waheeda Rehman was in a program, in those days he was making a film named CID, for which he was looking for an actress. He offered this film to Waheeda Rehman, called her for a screen test and then she was signed for this film.
It is said that both of them started coming close to each other from the set of this film. Gradually, Guru Dutt had completely fallen in love with Waheeda Rehman. So arrested that in the next film, he himself appeared as a hero on screen opposite Waheeda Rehman. The film was ‘Pyaasa’ which was released in the year 1957. This film was directed by Guru Dutt. It is said that earlier he was going to take Dilip Kumar in this film, but due to the presence of Waheeda Rehman as an actress in this film, he himself acted in this film instead of Dilip Kumar.
Guru Dutt was already married
Even though Guru Dutt had fallen in love with Waheeda Rehman’s beauty, had lost his heart on her, had fallen in love with her. But the problem in this love story was that he was already married. Guru Dutt married singer Geeta Dutt in the year 1953. However, on the sets of the film ‘Pyaasa’, the love of both of them started coming in front of the world. At one time such news also came that Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rehman are about to get married. Geeta was badly broken by this news and then she distanced herself from Guru Dutt and started living separately with her child.
Guru Dutt was unable to tolerate the pain of being away from his family. Now he had two ways. Firstly, he should choose his love i.e. Waheeda Rehman or secondly, the second wife. In love and wife, Guru Dutt chose his wife and then Geeta returned home. And then in this way Guru Dutt started moving away from Waheeda Rehman.
Left the world at the age of 39
Guru Dutt had gone away from his Waheeda for the sake of his wife, but he could not bear the pain of separation. It is said that he did not sleep for many days, his sleepless nights were snatched away. He started smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol, taking sleeping pills. And then one day at the age of just 39, he said goodbye to the world. The cause of his death was said to be excessive consumption of sleeping pills and alcohol.
