On a weekly basis, this is the fourth consecutive week when the stock market registered a rally. According to the data available on the website of NSDL, foreign portfolio investors have bought a total of 8276 crores in the Indian market so far in April. Out of this, a total of 7707 crores have been invested in the stock market, while 1403 crores have been invested in the debt market.

In the last six months, there has been a massive sell-off by foreign investors from the Indian market. Between October 2021 and March 2022, foreign portfolio investors withdrew a total of Rs 1.61 lakh crore from the Indian market. Out of this, a total of Rs 1.48 lakh crore has been withdrawn from the equity market.

The impact of the Federal Reserve’s decision will be visible

In fact, there is a lot of pressure on the Federal Reserve due to rising inflation. Finally, in March, the Federal Reserve raised the interest rate by 0.25 percent. It is believed that in the next meeting there will be an increase of 0.50 percent and there will be a lot of jump in the coming months. Due to the increase in the interest rate, foreign investors started selling from the Indian market. Meanwhile, the war between Russia and Ukraine has started, due to which the sentiment of investors has also been affected.

Nothing can be said about FPI trend right now

Regarding this change in the attitude of foreign investors, Himanshu Srivastava, Associate Director, Morningstar India said that it would be wrong to say that the attitude of foreign investors towards the Indian market has turned positive again. Right now nothing can be said seriously about any kind of change in the trend. It all depends on what kind of situations arise in the next few weeks.

Opportunity to earn shown when there is a fall

He said that the recent fall in the market was seen by foreign investors as an opportunity and made a comeback. However, in the last two days of this week, FPIs have sold continuously. This week, the stock market closed with a decline in three trading sessions in five and a rise in two trading sessions. The Sensex gained 0.28 per cent on a weekly basis. This is the reason why this is not the right time to say anything about the trend of FPIs.
