All-rounder returned after 2 years, Afghanistan’s team announced for Asia Cup

The Asia Cup-2022 is to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from August 27 and for this, Afghanistan has announced its team on Tuesday.

India, Pakistan and Bangladesh had announced their teams for the Asia Cup starting from 27th of this month. Now Afghanistan has also declared its team for this tournament. The Asia Cup will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has been given the command of Afghanistan cricket team. The Afghanistan team is currently on a tour of Ireland and only one change has been made in this team.

In the team, all-rounder Samiullah Shinwari has got a place in the team. He has come in the team in place of Sharafuddin Ashraf. Ashraf has now been kept in reserve. Apart from this, 17-year-old Noor Ahmed has also been added to the team.

Shinwari’s return to the team has come after two years. He played his last T20 match for Afghanistan against Ireland in March 2020. Shinwari has played 64 T20 matches for his country so far and has scored 1013 runs. During this his average has been 22.02. He has two half-centuries to his name. On the other hand, when it comes to his bowling figures, he has taken 28 wickets in the shortest format of the game. Ashraf’s performance was not good recently and hence he had to leave the team.

On the inclusion of Shinwari, chief selector Noor Malikzai said, “Asia Cup is very important for us and that is why we have picked our best team for this tournament. Shinwari has been selected in the squad for the Asia Cup. He is in terrific form and will provide strength to the batting department.”
