Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, was named Dhundiraj Govind Phalke. He was born on 30 April 1870. She was also a screen writer with an excellent director. He made more than 95 films in his 19-year film career.
Dadasaheb Phalke was always interested in art. He wanted to make a career in this field. He took admission in JJ College of Art in 1885. Along with this, he had studied Bhai Art from Kalabhavan in Vadodara. Dadasaheb shifted to Vadodara in the year 1890 where he worked as a photographer for some time. He quit his job after the demise of his first wife and child.
In this way, I decided to make a film
Dadasaheb Phalke started his printing press after that. After working with Indian artist Raja Ravi Varma, he went out of the country for the first time to Germany. Where he saw the first film The Life of Christ and decided to make the first film. He had to struggle a lot to make the first film. It took him six months to make it.
Dadasaheb made the first film Rajaharishchandra with the help of his wife and son. It took 15 thousand rupees to make this film. It used to be a huge amount in those days. Dadasaheb himself acted in King Harishchandra. His wife managed costume work and her son played Harishchandra’s son. The role of female lead in Dadasaheb’s film was also played by a man as no woman was willing to work.
The film was released on 3 May 1913 at the Coronation Theater in Mumbai. The film received a lot of love from the audience and proved to be a super hit.
