Britain’s state-run National Health Service (NHS) will begin the world’s largest test on Monday, carrying out the Grail Inc company’s Galleri blood test. Through this, more than 50 types of cancer will be used to detect them before their symptoms. Through the gallery blood test, it is done to look at the DNA in the patient’s blood, this shows whether there are any cancer cells in his body or not. Treating cancer at an early stage increases a patient’s chances of survival.
The NHS said it is looking to recruit 140,000 volunteers in England to see how well the test worked as part of a randomized control test. Half of the participants will have their blood sample checked immediately along with the gallery test. Peter Sciani, Professor of Cancer Prevention at King’s College London, said, “We need to carefully study the gallery test to determine whether it reduces the incidence of advanced cancers. “This test could be a game changer for early cancer detection and we are excited to lead this important research,” he said.
UK has the highest number of deaths due to lung cancer
Lung cancer is by far the most common cause of cancer deaths in the United Kingdom, accounting for about a fifth of all cancer deaths in Britain. The NHS says that lung, colon, prostate and breast cancers account for 45 percent of the United Kingdom’s cancer deaths. At the same time, American life science company Illumina Inc. said that last month it completed its acquisition of Grail for $ 7.1 billion. Illumina said it would operate Grail separately from its existing business.
These results were revealed in another research
Earlier in June, a research was published in the journal Annals of Oncology. It analyzed how the test worked in 2,823 people with cancer and 1,254 people without. It correctly identified cancer in 51.5 per cent of all disease stages and had a false-positive rate of only 0.5 per cent. Blood cancer was detected in about 55 per cent of the cases and cancerous tissue was identified in 88.7 per cent of the cases. It is worth noting that millions of people worldwide lose their lives every year due to cancer.
