Budget 2022: TV Narendran, president of the Confederation of Indian Industry, said on Friday that the central government should focus on investment and infrastructure in the next budget. Talking to CNBC-TV18, he said that the government needs to focus on investment and infrastructure instead of introducing new steps every year. Narendran further said that with each wave of the pandemic, the government and industry are better able to deal with bottlenecks. The President of CII said that the government should promote employment and along with it focus should be on increasing consumption.

Narendran said he thinks that if they can implement what they have said in the past years that they will, it will be a big progress. He further said that if they give their suggestions, then there is one thing that the government should continue to focus on infrastructure and investment, as this creates demand and jobs and helps in increasing competition.

MSMEs should also be helped: CII President

He said that the support of MNREGA should continue. He also mentioned that there has been a huge loss of jobs in the hospitality, travel and tourism sectors. And the government should see how it can further help the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

He said that secondly, MGNREGA has been very useful in ensuring that the impact on the people at the lower levels is minimized. We also need to focus on those sectors which have been affected a lot after Corona, such as hospitality, travel and tourism, restaurants etc. So, what can we do for those areas to help them make a comeback?

He further said that there are many MSMEs who have done good work, but there are some who have faced difficulties. So what can we do that will help the MSME. And all this has an effect on jobs and income, which has an effect on consumption.

Need to focus on improving health infrastructure: CII President

The President of CII also emphasized the need to focus more on building and improving the health infrastructure. He said that the expenditure for medical treatment still remains high. He said people have lost jobs. So, income has come down and on the other hand, health related expenditure has increased. The government should continue to invest in health infrastructure. Today it is 1.3 per cent of GDP, but we have to take it closer to 3 per cent, so that the high expenditure on healthcare can be reduced. He said that we need to improve the health infrastructure. Basic healthcare should be made available across the country and the government needs to allocate money for it.
