China’s International TV Channel CGTN accordingChina’s airship flew over Mount Everest at a speed of 30 meters per second. The flight took off from a base camp on the world’s highest peak at an altitude of 4,300 meters. The name of this airship is Jimu No. 1, which weighs 2.625 tonnes and has a volume of 9,060 cubic meters. The vehicle attached below it weighs 90 tons.
According to the media channel report, the airship is mainly used to record atmospheric composition data, which can provide information about black carbon, dust, carbon dioxide and methane present in the environment. Scientists are also studying the process of transporting water vapor up to 9,000 meters above the surface.
Researchers from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tibetan Plateau Research Institute and Aerospace Information Research Institute, Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics are involved in this “Earth Summit Mission 2022” campaign of China.
During this campaign, a dozen Ozonsonde balloons were launched from Base Camp, reaching an altitude of 5,200 m, while the tallest balloon reached 39.1 km above Base Camp.
Zhu Tong, head of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering at Peking University, told CGTN: “We mainly want to look at ozone, which is a chemical that blocks the sun’s UV rays in the stratosphere and gives humans a protective effect.” It is beneficial to provide flake, and is harmful to human health on the ground, where it becomes active and is harmful to our respiratory system.”<!–
