When was FIPIC formed?

All these island countries are very small in terms of population and area, but they are very important from the strategic point of view. For this reason they are important for India.

India has formed it under its Act East Policy. The central government had implemented this policy in the year 2014. This policy is an evolved form of the Look East Policy, which was started by the Government of India in 1992. The purpose of both the policies is to strengthen business and cultural relations with other countries including countries located in the Pacific Ocean.

For what purpose was it formed?

Its formation and recent activities are to reduce the impact of China’s growing activities in the countries of the Pacific Ocean region. Its influence has to be stopped. This becomes more important when China is continuously trying to increase its military influence. China is also continuously active on the diplomatic front.

Several important things happened at the Forum for India Pacific Island Cooperation (FIPIC) summit held in Papua New Guinea. This conference was organized on May 21-22, 2023. PM Narendra Modi along with his core team participated in it.

He said that India respects the sovereignty and integrity of all countries. Together we will work in every field in a cordial environment. Will take care of each other. Quad countries are working for the security of this area. That’s why you all need to be relaxed.

It is worth mentioning that Quad countries mean America, Japan, Australia and India. The Quad summit was also scheduled in Australia this month, but due to the busyness of US President Joe Biden, it was held in Hiroshima, the venue of the G-7 summit, before the scheduled date.
