Amit Panghal sealed his place in the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games by defeating Lenin Mulligan of Scotland 5-0 in the men’s 51kg quarterfinal match on Thursday. With this, Amit has confirmed the medal as soon as he steps in the last-4.
Amit initially tried to understand his opponent’s strategy by being patient. He was trying to gauge his opponent and then he hit some good punches. He hit the target accurately through the hook. At the same time, he also went to the punches of Lenin. At the end of the first round, Amit hit two precise targets for the jab and then went on to collect points through the left hook.
More aggressive in the second round
In the second round, Lenin looked aggressive from the beginning and started throwing sharp punches as soon as he arrived. In view of this, Amit adopted a defensive strategy. Meanwhile, Lenin looked tired, which Amit took advantage of and came closer and made two strong jabs. Although Lenin played better in the second round than in the first round, although the four referees ruled in Amit’s favour.
Everything planted in the third round
In the third round, Lenin once again started aggressively from the beginning and appeared in a hurry. But Amit coped well with his experience and weakened Lenin with the combination of three punches. Amit had the edge and hence looked defensive. He was turning his opponent in the ring.
