When Shammi Kapoor’s father returned to Mumbai in 1939, he started working with Ranjit Studios. Five years after this, in the year 1944, his father started Prithvi Theatre, which is very famous today. The first play named Shakuntala was played in Prithvi Theatre. Shammi Kapoor and his elder brother Raj Kapoor took part in this play. But when Raj Kapoor could not get leave to participate in the play, he got into a fight with the principal. After which both Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor had to leave school.

Shammi Kapoor worked with actress Nutan in her debut film Laila Majnu. It is said that actress Nutan was his childhood girlfriend. Shammi started dating Nutan at a very young age.
