In the second ODI match played between (IND vs SL), Deepak Chahar’s smoky innings played the biggest role in the crossing of Team India. Not only this, the credit for winning the series also goes to him. His innings of 69 runs remains the subject of constant discussions. Know what the fast bowler himself has to say about MS Dhoni through this special report….
The fast bowler credits his batting to the former captain
Regarding his explosive innings, the fast bowler says that he has got the benefit of watching MS Dhoni finishing the match in this match of Colombo. While talking about this in a virtual press conference, he said that,
“Looking closely at the former captain in the match. Especially the way in which he finishes the match. When you talk to him, he always tells you to take the game deeply. Everyone wants us to win. He always tells me that it is in your hands to take the match till the end and if you can do that and you have overs then the match can be exciting, so that is what I was doing.”
Asked if being seen as a bowler matters to him? So while answering this, Deepak Chahar said that,
“I have always worked on my batting. My father has been my coach. When I talk to him, we always talk about our batting. It doesn’t matter to me whether people see me as an all-rounder or not. The batsman who is playing with me will believe that I can turn around and not give my wicket. It is very important for a batsman to know that his partner will support him. It doesn’t matter whether people see me as an all-rounder or not.
Bowler reads ballads in praise of Rahul Dravid
Further, Chahar (Deepak chahar) also gave a big reaction about coach Dravid. They said that,
“Rahul Dravid is coaching the senior team for the first time. But, he has been with the A team for a long time and I have played under his guidance, coaching. Many a times, the situation of getting out has arisen between the batsmen and me. I have played good innings for India A and that is why Rahul sir has faith in me. Whenever the coach is in your support, it is in your mind that he is with you.
He further said during the conversation that,
“When I was batting with Krunal, my role was completely different. I had to rotate the strike. But, when Bhuvneshwar came, the only thing in my mind was do I need to play my shots? But, the way he started he looked effortless and that gave me confidence. His batting encouraged me and I didn’t need to take any risk.
Getting selected in the World Cup is not in your own hands
After this, when Deepak Chahar was asked the question, is his eye on the T20 World Cup to be played in the UAE in October-November? So while answering this question, he said that,
“The World Cup is far away, I have only one goal and that is to prove myself with both bat and ball. The selection is not in my hands, it is not in the hands of any player. We can only perform. I was looking for an opportunity to show my ability with the bat.
For the last two years, I didn’t get a chance to bat for long. So this was a good opportunity. I am glad that I managed to take advantage of this opportunity”.
Variety needed in bowling
Along with this, the fast bowler also made it clear that, he is also focusing on working on his bowling and bringing variety. Regarding this he said,
“I have been playing T20 format for some time now. If you don’t have variety in that format, it can be easy for the batsmen. Swing depends on the wicket and conditions. But if you get variety then you can hold your own in this format. I took a wicket on the knuckleball in the last game.
