This was followed by a decline of 11 per cent in the west and eight per cent in the north. RAI said that the southern region has been the least affected and during January 2022, the retail sales of this region has registered a decline of two per cent.

Retail sales in beauty, wellness and personal care were the worst hit by category. There was a decline of 24 per cent in the previous month as compared to January 2019. This was followed by a decline of 12 per cent in furniture and furnishing and seven per cent in apparel and clothing.

11 percent jump in sales in jewelery segment

According to the association, there was an 11 percent increase in retail sales of jewelery category in January this year as compared to the same month in 2019 and retail sales of fast service restaurants also saw a growth of nine percent.

Open exemption in most states except Delhi, Haryana
