In the year 2021, India imported 43400 barrels of crude oil from Russia on a daily basis. It is 1 per cent of the overall import. India’s contribution to Russia’s overall natural gas exports is 0.20 percent. GAIL India has signed a 20-year deal with Gazprom of Russia. Under this agreement, India will buy 2.5 million tonnes of LNG gas every year from Russia. This agreement was started in 2018.

Russia largely exports crude oil to China. China’s contribution to Russia’s total crude oil exports is 15.4 percent. Only Saudi Arabia exports more oil to China than this. Russia imports 1.59 million barrels of crude oil from China on a daily basis. This is 15.5 percent of its total imports. Russia ranks third in terms of supplying gas to China. China’s contribution to Russia’s total gas exports is 6.7 percent. Russia is also second in terms of supplying coal to China. Russia’s contribution to China’s total coal imports is 4.72 percent.

Talking about Japan, the world’s third largest economy, Russia is Japan’s second largest thermal coal supplier. Russia’s contribution to Japan’s total coal imports is 12.48 percent. Russia ranks fifth in terms of exporting crude oil and LNG to Japan. Russia’s contribution to Japan’s total crude oil imports is 3.63 percent and LNG imports contribute 8.84 percent. At the same time, Japan accounts for 4.1 percent of Russia’s crude oil exports. Japan’s share in natural gas exports is 7.2 percent.
