This is the longest consecutive win for a female player since Serena Williams won 34 consecutive matches in 2013. French Open 2020 champions Swiatec have not lost a match for more than three months. Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep was upset by Chinese qualifier Qinwen Zheng 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Earlier, world number three Paula Bedosa became the first player in the top 10 to make it to the third round. Spain’s Bedosa defeated Slovenia’s No. 68 Kaja Juvan 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in a second round match that lasted more than two hours. In the third set, Bedosa had lost his first serve but after that he returned to win four games in a row and then won the match. Bedosa’s best performance in the Grand Slam tournament is to make it to the quarter-finals of the 2021 French Open. Bedosa will take on world number 29 Veronika Kudermatova of Russia in the third round. US Open 2017 runner-up Madison Keys also reached the third round after defeating Caroline Gracia 6-4, 7-6(3) in straight sets.

Sixteenth seed Bopanna and Middelkup won the second round 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and six minutes.
