Target to increase the share of natural gas from 6.7 to 15 percent by 2030
GAIL Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Jain said that a major part of the ambitious Urja Ganga project will be completed by the middle of 2022 as per the schedule. This project will put eastern India on the energy map. India has set a target to increase the share of natural gas in its energy needs to 15 percent by 2030 from the current 6.7 percent.
“We are in the process of getting approval from the regulator (PNGRB) for laying a 425-km long pipeline from Gurdaspur (in Punjab) to Srinagar via Jammu,” Manoj Jain told PTI in an interview.
Instructions not to levy VAT on natural gas to keep fuel cost low
Due to the inaccessible geographical area and very few clients, the project requires feasibility gap funding from the government. “The project will be completed in 3-4 years,” he said.
