Government is kind to oil companies, will get 800 crores for EV charging station

Government oil companies will build 7,432 EV charging stations to charge electric vehicles (EV). Apart from fast, slow charging option will also be available at these EV stations. 22,000 EV charging stations are to be built by public sector oil companies by 2024.

To overcome this problem, the Ministry of Heavy Industry government oil companies (OMCs) will give a subsidy of Rs 800 crore. According to reports, this subsidy will be given to build 7,432 EV charging stations in different parts of the country.

Certainly people will benefit greatly from the formation of new EV charging stations. According to official figures, 7,432 new charging stations along with the existing 6,586 government EV charging stations will further strengthen the EV ecosystem. This will give a big boost to four wheeler electric vehicles in the country.

Subsidy for EV Charging Station

The subsidy received by public sector oil companies has been given for Combined Charging System (CCS)-II EV. It will not be used for CHARge de MOve (CHAdeMO). CCS format charger is used more in the country. If developers want, they can also build charging stations under CHAdeMO fast chargers, but subsidy will not be available.

Difference between both EV stations

Different types of plugs are used in CCS and CHAdeMO. The CHAdeMO is specially designed for Japanese car makers, while the CCS is for Europe. CCS is being preferred in India like America. The new EV station will have the facility of both fast and slow charging.

Subsidy is being given to reduce the cost of charging station. This will help in fulfilling the mission of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to build 22,000 EV charging stations by 2024. This money will be given to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to build and run EV charging stations at petrol pumps.
