External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is very popular among the people and there are many reasons for this. In the video, a student asks the foreign minister how to make a career in international relations. The student praised Jaishankar, a civil servant-turned-minister, and asked if he could guide her to pursue a career in international relations.

Jaishankar laughed hearing this question and said that he might not be the best person to answer this question, as he had done many things before knowing about Political Science.

What did the foreign minister say?

S Jaishankar said, ‘To be honest, I am a very bad guide. For a very long time I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I also spent a few months in IIT. I got registered to do my master’s in chemistry and then I came to know that chemistry and I are not made for each other.’ He further said, ‘Then I learned about political science. It took me a few weeks to complete a few months’ work.

The External Affairs Minister reiterated that it is very important that you follow your passion. This was the reason that while studying Political Science, he never felt that he was doing this course. He asked the students to fulfill their dreams. Jaishankar said, ‘Do the work for which you are willing. If you can make your passion a profession, then I can say that you will be excellent.’
