The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has said that it has recommended that people with a rare type of blood vessel syndrome should not be given the AstraZeneca anti-Covid-19 vaccine. The European Union (EU) drug regulator said in a statement on Friday that it reviewed cases of ‘capillary leak syndrome’ in six people who received a single dose of AstraZeneca vaccine.
In the past, there were some cases of blood clot formation from this vaccine, but health officials said that its benefits are more than small risks. Experts from the EMA have said that the case of ‘capillary leak’ should be included as a new side effect from the vaccine. The agency said it is reviewing cases of inflammation in the heart of some people who took Pfizer-BioNtech and Moderna’s vaccines.
Review may be completed next month
The EMA said it is studying cases of myocarditis, inflammation of the heart and pericarditis. In these cases, there is a problem of breathing, chest pain, but it is only temporary. The EMA said that further analysis is needed in this regard whether it has any relation to the vaccine. The EMA said that the review of such cases is likely to be completed by next month.
