The first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia is going to start in Nagpur a little while from now. In this Test series, 9 Australian players will debut on Indian soil. In these, 3 batsmen, 1 all-rounder, 1 wicketkeeper and the remaining 4 players will be bowlers. Most of the players can get a chance to play their first Test on Indian soil today i.e. in Nagpur only.
Among the 3 batsmen who will play their first Test in India for Australia, the biggest name is that of Usman Khawaja. Khawaja has also toured India in 2013 and 2017 but he did not get a chance to play Test then. Apart from these, Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head have experience of playing Tests against India but they will be playing Test matches for the first time on Indian soil.
Cameron Green’s debut will be seen in India as an all-rounder. It is a different matter that he will not play in Nagpur Test, which has been confirmed by Pat Cummins. But, it is possible that for the second or third Test of the series, Green will be fully fit and will be seen playing his first Test match in India.
There is every possibility of wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey playing in the Nagpur Test. Which means that his Test debut on Indian soil can be seen after some time from now.
There are 4 names in bowling, including a fast bowler and 3 spinners, whose Test debut can be seen on Indian soil. Todd Murphy hasn’t played any Test for Australia yet. While Scott Boland, Mitchell Swepson and Aston Egger have played for Australia. But if he gets a chance in this series, he will be seen playing his first Test in India. (All photos: PTI)
