Jhund: Supreme Court to hear on May 6 the petition seeking release on OTT platform, know the whole matter

Amitabh Bachchan’s recently released film ‘Jhund’, a biographical sports film, is based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of the NGO ‘Slum Soccer’.

Senior advocate CA Sundaram said that, “The OTT release date was announced in March and a one-line order was passed through Telangana High Court on Friday.” The senior counsel said that the challenge to the film had already been rejected. The CJI said, “We will list it tomorrow.”

The High Court, in its interim order passed on April 29 on a plea by Hyderabad-based filmmaker Nandi Chinni Kumar, ordered status quo with respect to the film’s release on OTT platforms and fixed June 9 as the next date of hearing. The petition alleges copyright infringement through the makers of ‘Jhund’.

Jhund starring Amitabh Bachchan, Akash Thosar and Rinku is a sports film based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of NGO Slum Soccer. The film gives a glimpse into the universe of a notorious street gang involved in petty crimes and other illegal activities and how they are shaped into a football team through Big B’s character as a coach. The film is directed by National Award winning director Nagraj Popatrao Manjule.

The film was released in theaters on March 4, 2022. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Savita Raj Hiremath, Raj Hiremath, Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, Gargi Kulkarni, Meenu Arora and Sandeep Singh under the banner of T-Series, Tandav Films Entertainment and Atpat.
