TRAI December 2021 Report It states, there were 1 billion 630 million wireless subscribers active in this month. The number of wireless subscribers in India declined from 1 billion 170 million to 1 billion 150 million from the end of November to the end of December, a decline of 1.10 percent per month. The number of wireless subscribers in urban areas declined from 63.80 million to 63.33 million, a decline of 0.8 percent per month. Whereas in rural areas, the number of such subscribers decreased from 52 crore 90 lakh to 52 crore 12 lakh, which is a decline of 1.47 percent per month.
Divided by access service provider, the market share of private access service provider stood at 89.81 per cent as on December 31, 2021, while the market share of two PSUs BSNL and MTNL was only 10.19 per cent. Reliance Jio garnered 36 percent of the total wireless subscribers and ranks second with 87.64 percent of the active wireless subscribers.
One of TelecomTalk Report As per reports, Jio may be working to weed out passive subscribers from its total subscription base. It also said that low-income users shifted to BSNL after the prepaid tariff hike in November.
Airtel ranks second in terms of wireless subscribers with a market share of 30.81 percent. However, it has registered the largest percentage ratio with 98.01 percent active subscribers. Vi is in third place with 23 percent market share. It registered a ratio of 86.42 percent to active wireless subscribers. In the month of December, the market share of BSNL was 9.90 percent and that of MTNL was 0.28 percent.
Talking about the growth rate, in December 2021, Jio registered a negative growth of 3.01 percent, Airtel registered a growth of 0.13 percent and Vodafone Idea registered a negative growth of 0.60 percent.
