According to media reports, the distributor company had given an advance of Rs 6 crore to the makers of Thalaivi, which the makers have not yet returned.

It has been said in the report that the company demanded money from the makers many times in the last two years. Mails were also sent for this and money was also sought through phone calls. The budget of Thalaivi has been said to be around Rs 60 crore. However, this film was able to do a business of only about 8.5 crores in India and abroad. The film was directed by Vijay. In this, the character of ADMK founder and former CM MG Ramachandran was played by Arvind Swamy.
