Kolkata: Before IPL-2023, Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a setback when team captain Shreyas Iyer was injured. It was clear that he would not be able to play this season and since then speculations were being made about his option but now the franchise has taken cover from it. Kolkata told that Nitish Rana will captain the team in the next season. Rana has been with the team for a long time and now he will be seen captaining.

Nitish is playing for KKR in IPL since 2018. Earlier he used to play for Mumbai Indians. In 2016, he made his IPL debut with Mumbai. In 2017 also he played for Mumbai and then came to Kolkata. Rana’s coach Sanjay Bhardwaj had claimed in an interview that he used to hit 100 sixes daily in the nets.

Will bring success to Kolkata

The situation is not yet clear about how many matches Iyer is out or he will not be able to play the entire season. Kolkata said in its statement that in the absence of Iyer, Rana will captain the team. The franchise has also raised hopes that Iyer will make a comeback in the IPL at some stage. Kolkata has told that Rana has the experience of captaining his home state Delhi and in view of this, he has been chosen as the captain. Rana has the support of coach Chandrakant Pandit and support staff. Kolkata has not won the IPL title since 2014, but it has not even reached the finals. Under the captaincy of Rana, the team will try its best to achieve success.
