Major decision of Ministry of Transport on oxygen containers, now mandatory to install VLT devices in such trains

Due to the second wave of corona infection, there has been a shortage of oxygen all over the country. The government is constantly sending containers for the supply of oxygen to the hospitals as soon as possible, but sometimes due to getting stuck in the way or due to other reasons, they are not able to reach at the right time. In such a situation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has taken an important decision. Now the ministry has made it mandatory to install vehicle location tracking (VLT) devices in vehicles with oxygen containers.

A tweet has also been made by the Ministry in this regard. It states, “MoRTH has made it mandatory to install vehicle location tracking (VLT) devices in oxygen containers / tankers / vehicles. GPS tracking will ensure the monitoring and safety of these tankers, besides taking care that there is no delay due to diversion. ”

Ministry also issued memorandum

The Ministry of Transport has also issued a memorandum regarding the fitment of Oxygen Container and Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) devices to be installed in vehicles. In which it has been said that at this time it is the priority of the Ministry to provide oxygen to hospitals and medical institutions in the corona epidemic. Therefore, under section 137D of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, it is mandatory to install VLT devices in vehicles with special supplies. This will make it easier to monitor vehicles.

Delhi High Court reprimanded

The hearing was held on Tuesday in the Delhi High Court regarding the lack of oxygen. The High Court reprimanded the Central Government during this period. The court said, ‘You can be blind by seeing the situation in the country, not us. We cannot see people dying. The Delhi High Court said, “The Center has blindfolded, we cannot do this.” The High Court has told the Central Government that if the consumption of oxygen is less in Maharashtra at this time, then some tankers can be sent to Delhi.
