Money9: In the current era of inflation, there will hardly be anything whose prices have not increased, but the price of onion, which has the power to win and defeat elections, is decreasing instead of increasing. During the last one month, the prices have decreased by about 19 percent and compared to last year, the price is down by about 32 percent. In Maharashtra’s Lasalgaon mandi, the price has come down to around Rs 11 a kg.

Farmers are saying that even their cost is not coming out at such a low price. Onion farmers’ organization in Maharashtra is demanding an average price of Rs 25 per kg from the governments and has threatened to stop onion supply in the market from August 16 if the price is not received. If we look at the figures of the government, this year there is a yield of more than 317 lakh tonnes of onion in the country, which is about 51 lakh tonnes more than last year and is the highest crop ever.
