He said that the operation of the university has started completely in the new campus. However, the infrastructure development work is likely to be completed by the financial year 2025-26. A fund of Rs.2727 crore has been approved for the construction of Nalanda University. In which Rs 1749 crore was kept in the head of capital expenditure and Rs 977 crore was kept in the head of recurring expenditure. This amount was for the period from 2010-11 to 2021-22.
Construction work started in 2018
Sources said that till January 2022, Rs 1060 crore has been spent on capital expenditure, while about Rs 213 crore has been spent on recurring expenditure. He said that from the year 2017, its construction work gained momentum. Now 90 percent of the construction work of academic block, administrative building, laboratories, amphitheater, auditorium, meditation room etc. has been completed. According to sources, the hostel block of students (Nalanda University Hostel)The work of construction of residence of teachers and employees started in the year 2018 and till now 70 percent of it has been completed.
He said that at present there are more than 700 students in Nalanda University, out of which 173 foreign students from 31 countries are involved. After this, a joint statement was issued for its establishment in the Fourth East Asia Summit in the year 2009 with the active participation of India.
Government agreement in 2013
An Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between eight countries in October 2013 for the establishment of Nalanda University. Later nine more countries joined this MoU. Thus the number of countries involved in the MoU increased to 17. These countries include India, China, Thailand, Australia, Laos, Brunei, Dar es Salaam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Mauritius, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea. , Sri Lanka, Vietnam are included. According to sources, China, Australia, Thailand, Laos have contributed for its construction work.
Nalanda University has School of Buddhist Studies, School of Ecological and Environmental Studies in addition to Philosophy, School of History Studies, School of Language and Literature / Humanities Studies etc. Apart from this, languages like Korean, Sanskrit, Pali, Tibetan etc. are also taught. The School of Management Studies offers courses in Sustainable Development and Management.
