Carbon dioxide emissions cause debate among countries around the world. All the countries claim and promise that they are working towards reducing the emission of carbon dioxide and other green house gases, but no concrete initiative is visible. Now researchers have tracked the carbon dioxide emissions of more than 100 countries in the world with the help of NASA’s Earth-observing satellite. A map related to the study has been issued. In this, those countries are displayed in green, which absorbed more carbon dioxide than they emitted. When shown in a darker color, countries emit more carbon dioxide. America and China are at the forefront of these.

This Study used data from NASA’s Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) spacecraft and ground-based observations. Researchers tracked carbon dioxide emissions from 2015 to 2020. It is worth noting that the purpose of the OCO-2 mission was not to estimate the carbon emissions of all countries.

Karen St. Germain, director of NASA’s Earth Science Division, said this is an example of how NASA is developing efforts to measure carbon emissions. The authors associated with the study say that this study can be beneficial for all countries. Many such countries which have not recorded their carbon emissions for the last several years, their data has also been collected in this study.

It has been found in the study that only cutting of trees has increased carbon emissions in areas of Latin America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. This study explains how carbon emissions can be reduced. Carbon emissions can be reduced with the help of such forests, where human interference is less. Researchers say that their pilot experiment can be further improved in the future, which will reveal how carbon emissions are changing in countries around the world.
