DU Political Science Syllabus: It has now been decided to remove the name of famous poet Mohammad Iqbal from the BA program of Delhi University. Now students reaching DU will not be taught about Iqbal. Till now Iqbal has been taught in the syllabus of BA Political Science. After the approval of the Delhi University Executive Council, Iqbal will be removed from the syllabus. Apart from these, the Academic Council has also approved some other proposals.
Iqbal is a famous poet of Urdu and Persian. The song ‘Saare Jahan Se Accha, Hindustan Hamara’, which is widely heard on the occasion of Independence Day, is written by Iqbal. Iqbal is called the national poet of Pakistan. It is believed that Iqbal was actually the brain behind Pakistan. He is also called Allama Iqbal. The final decision on the matter of removing him from the syllabus has to be taken by the Executive Council, whose meeting is scheduled on June 9.

Center will be made on partition, Hindus and tribals
A proposal to have separate centers on Partition Studies, Hindu Studies and Tribal Studies was presented before the Academic Council. The council has now approved it. Iqbal was taught in detail in the chapter ‘Modern Indian Political Thought’ of BA Political Science syllabus. This chapter was taught in the sixth semester of the course. Five members of the Academic Council opposed the setting up of a Center for Partition Studies. There are 100 members in this council.
DU Academic Council five members termed Partition Studies as actually divisive. The center will especially study about the invasions, suffering and slavery in the last 1300 years. A statement said that discussion on 1300 years of history would provide an opportunity for communal speeches.
ABVP welcomed the removal of Iqbal
In a statement, the ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) has welcomed the decision to drop Iqbal from the political science syllabus. ABVP described Iqbal as a staunch religious scholar, who is called the ‘Philosophical Father’ of Pakistan. Iqbal had a hand behind making Jinnah stand in the Muslim League. ABVP said that like Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Mohammad Iqbal is also responsible for the partition of India.
