Indian players shine in Asian Championship

New Delhi. Indian race walkers showed their mettle in the ongoing Asian Athletics Championships in Nomi, Japan. India’s Vikas Singh won silver and silver in the 20 km race walk event. Paramjit Singh Bisht Won Bronze Medal. Along with this victory, both these players got two more big successes. Both these players have confirmed their place in the Paris Olympics to be held in 2024 and the World Championship to be held in 2023.

Vikas completed the 20 km race in a time of 1:20:05 seconds (one hour, 20 minutes, five seconds) and stood second. While Paramjit took 1:20:08 seconds to complete the race and finished third. The first place in this race was named after China’s Qian Haifeng, who clocked 1:19:09 seconds and secured the first place.

Vikas and Paramjit won medals

The qualifying mark for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and the World Athletics Championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary in August this year is 1:20:10. Vikas and Paramjeet achieved this mark with a very small margin. Before these two, Akshdeep Singh had qualified for both these tournaments. He stood fifth in this competition.

Talking about the women’s category, Priyanka Goswami, who won the silver medal in the Commonwealth Games, finished third in the official entry event with a timing of 1:32:27 and won the bronze medal. India’s Munita Pajapati and Bhawna Jat clocked 1:33:22 and 1:36:20 respectively in the open category, missing the Olympic and World Championships qualifying marks of 1:29:20 by a huge margin.

Indian players seen in open category

Apart from the official entry in the Asian Championship, players were also given a chance to participate in the open category but their records were not given official status. India had sent four male and three female players in the open category. Two other Indians in the men’s section Suraj Panwar And Hardeep clocked 1:22:31 and 1:25:38 respectively.
