India beat 14 time champion Indonesia

Let us inform that last week, India’s men’s badminton team registered its name in the pages of history by winning the Thomas Cup title for the first time by defeating 14-time champions Indonesia 3-0 in a one-sided final. The Indian team put up its best performance in the history of the tournament. World Championship medalists Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth, besides world number eight pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, registered a memorable win for the team.

India never reached the final

India thus ended the most prestigious team tournament in the world with a scintillating performance throughout the week, in which they had never reached the final before. The Indian team had never even reached the semi-finals of the Thomas Cup since 1979 and defeated a strong team like Malaysia and Denmark during the title win here. Captain Kidambi Srikanth, Chirag-Satwik pair and young shuttler Lakshya Sen were instrumental in India winning the Thomas Cup. Apart from this, HS Prannoy also won despite being injured in difficult times and helped the country to become champion.
