Ever since the former giants(Rahul Dravid) has taken over the responsibility of coaching the Indian team on the Sri Lanka tour. Since then, fans on social media are seen demanding Dravid to be the coach of India’s main team. This demand has intensified after India won two back to back ODI matches. Meanwhile, famous commentator Aakash Chopra does not think that Dravid will send his name for the coach’s post. But if it does, it could be a thorn in the side.
There will be a fierce competition between Dravid-Shastri
Former Indian legend Rahul Dravid is a legendary player. He is known for getting the best out of young players. In such a situation, now that India’s team adorned with young players is doing well in Sri Lanka under his coaching, the discussion has intensified that he is a contender for the coaching position of the main team and hecan compete with. Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel,
“I don’t think Rahul Dravid is going to put his name in the list. If Rahul Dravid says he wants to be India’s coach, there could be a collision. If he wants to, it will be a strong fight. But if Dravid expresses reluctance, no other candidate will be able to stand against Shastri. this is what I think.”
I don’t think there will be change in coaching
head coach of indiaHis tenure was renewed after the 2019 World Cup. Now Shastri’s tenure will end with the T20 World Cup to be played in October-November. Aakash Chopra believes that Shastri’s tenure can be extended once again. The former opener further said,
“I don’t think there is going to be any change. I think Ravi Shastri will continue. Just because there is a process, applications will be invited, there will be some Reiki. I don’t see any change in coaching, to be very honest.”
Back to back mega events
citing the reason behind retaining Ravi Shastri as the coach has said that back to back mega events are to be played. Apart from this, India also made it to the WTC final, so why would there be a change in coaching? Chopra added,
“There is another T20 World Cup within a year of this T20 World Cup and a year later there is a 50-50 World Cup. You have reached the final of the World Test Championship and the team is doing well, then why change.
