Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has played a brilliant inning in the third ODI against New Zealand and has given a strong start to his team.

Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has scored a century in ODIs after two years. He has done this feat in the third ODI match being played against New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Rohit was struggling for runs for a long time. As soon as he came to Indore, he removed this shortcoming. Rohit had also scored a century in T20 on this ground. This is Rohit’s first century in international cricket after one and a half years. He had earlier scored a Test century against England in September 2021. Since then, a century did not come out of his bat till 54 innings. Rohit completed his century in 83 balls.
At the same time, Rohit scored his last century in ODIs against Australia on 19 January 2020. With this, Rohit has completed his 30 centuries in ODI career. Meanwhile, Rohit’s partner Shubman Gill also played a brilliant inning. There was a competition between the two coming close to the century and it was being awaited that who would complete the century first. Rohit though completed the century.

Recently, questions were being raised about Rohit’s batting. He was struggling for runs. Especially in limited overs no big innings was coming from his bat. Rohit has scored the second fastest century of his ODI career in this match. Earlier in 2018, he scored a century in 82 balls against England. With this century, Rohit has equaled former Australia captain Ricky Ponting in terms of scoring the most centuries in ODIs. Both of them now have 30-30 centuries in ODIs.
Rohit, however, got out shortly after completing the century. Rohit scored 101 runs in 85 balls with the help of nine fours and six sixes in this match. He made an opening partnership of 212 runs with Gill. This is the biggest partnership for the first wicket in ODIs after the 2019 World Cup.

Rohit was made the captain of the Indian team in all three formats last year in place of Virat Kohli. This is Rohit’s first century in international cricket after taking over full-time captaincy.
