Before the cancellation of the Manchester Test, the Indian team was ahead 2-1 in the series. India had the best chance of winning a Test series in England since 2007. But the last match was not played due to Kovid. Now BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has made it clear that the board will not compromise in any situation and he wants the series to be completed. Ganguly said in a special conversation with PTI,

“We want the series to be completed because it will be our first win (in England) in the series since 2007. The BCCI believes that Test cricket is the original format and it will not be compromised under any circumstances.

Ready to play extra ODIs and T20s

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has also given a statement that Team India can play 5 T20I matches instead of 3 on the England tour to be held next year. When Sourav Ganguly was asked on this, he said,

“We are ready to play extra ODIs and T20 Internationals and that is not the issue. It is just that the Test match that will be played later will be the fifth match of the series. Priority was given to cancellation of series due to COVID-19 in the last 18 months. BCCI had canceled their home series against South Africa last year due to which we lost Rs 4-5 crore.

Players’ safety was priority

First in Indian camp Ravi Shastri Including Bharat Arun, R Sridhar and Nitin Patel were found positive. Then the junior physio was also found infected with Kovid before the Manchester Test. In such a situation, Sourav Ganguly has now said that the safety of the players was a priority for him before the match. This former captain said,

“Because we know how damaging it is for viewers and television viewers especially when such an exciting series is being played. Test cricket is the first priority of BCCI. We are extremely disappointed that this series has ended midway. The only reason for this was the outbreak of Kovid-19 and the safety of the players. We can force them only up to a limit. The pandemic is so bad that no one can go beyond a certain limit.
