The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the names of the players selected for the ‘ICC Player of the Month’ award for the month of January. Right-handed batsman Keegan Petersen, who led South Africa to victory in the Test series against Team India, was chosen as the Men’s Player of the Month, while English women’s team captain Heater Knight. (Heather Knight) was successful in winning the title of Women’s Player of the Month.
Keegan Pietersen named ICC Player of the Month
South Africa’s Test sensation Keegan Petersen and England women’s team captain Heather Knight were named the ICC Player of the Month for January 2022. Apart from Keegan Pietersen, Dewald Brevis of South Africa and Bangladesh bowler Ibadat Hossein were also nominated in this list for the Under-19 World Cup 2022.
But in the end, Keegan Peterson was successful in winning this title on the basis of votes. Ibadat took 9 wickets in the two-match Test series against New Zealand in January. He helped Bangladesh win a Test match for the first time in New Zealand by taking six wickets for 46 runs in the first Test. The same Pietersen scored 244 runs against Team India’s strong bowling attack in the 3-match Test series. After which he was also selected as the Player of the Series.
Heather Knight also received the award
Talking about women’s cricket, Heather Knight, the captain of the English team, was successful in winning the ICC Player of the Month Award. Heater Knight made a stellar performance in the only Test match of the Women’s Ashes against Australia. Knight scored 216 runs in this test played in Canberra.
She scored an unbeaten 168 in the first innings, which is the highest score by any captain in the history of Women’s Test. Apart from him, Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka and Dendra Dottin of West Indies were also nominated for this award.
