Sports Ministry gave grant to Judo players
The Sports Ministry has approved a financial assistance of Rs 5 crore for India’s judo players to prepare for this year’s Asian Games and other international competitions after de-recognising the national federation recently. The ministry revoked the recognition of the Judo Federation of India on 22 April after it failed to hold fresh elections in February 2022. The cancellation of the federation’s accreditation created uncertainty over the future of judo players preparing for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. The ministry and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), however, constituted a committee of former veteran judo players of the country. This committee will organize a month-long national preparation camp for the Asian Games and other international competitions which will start from May 1. According to a statement by SAI, 112 athletes will be part of the camp.
