AIFF will be audited for the last four financial years

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has constituted a team to conduct an audit of the last four financial years of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for alleged financial irregularities. The AIFF, however, said that it has not received any specific letter from the CAG in the recent past. It said that furnishing of audited financial statements is a normal practice and is done from time to time. An Indian football source aware of the development said, “The CAG has constituted a team today to audit the records of the last four financial years of AIFF. A special team has been directed by the higher officials to go to the bottom and conduct a thorough investigation. The Sports Ministry approved the audit of the country’s apex football body after the CAG’s special cell had found alleged financial irregularities in the AIFF. Reacting to this, an official of the federation said that it is handing over a copy of its audited financial statements to the CAG.

Novak Djokovic in the third open of the Madrid Open

Signing a return to his best form, Novak Djokovic entered the third round of the Madrid Open tennis tournament with a straight sets defeat to Gael Monfils, where he will face Andy Murray. Djokovic called it his best performance of the year after beating Monfils 6-3, 6-2. The Serbian saved five break points while the Frenchman Monfils broke the serve three times. Liverpool return to the Champions League

Liverpool made a comeback from two goals to defeat Villarreal on Tuesday to enter the final of the Champions League football tournament. Liverpool won the first leg of the semi-finals 2–0 but Villarreal equalized the score by scoring two goals in the first half of the second leg. Liverpool did well in the second half, scoring three goals and winning the second leg 3–2 and 5–2 on aggregate to reach the final. Boulay Día (2nd minute) and Francis Coquelin (41st) put Villarreal 2-0 ahead at half time but Fabiano (62nd), substitute Louis Diaz (67th) and Sadio Mane (74th) scored three goals to ensure Liverpool’s victory. Kevin Anderson said goodbye to tennis

South African tennis legend and two-time Grand Slam runner-up Kevin Anderson on Tuesday retired from professional tennis at the age of 35. Anderson, who is six feet eight inches tall, lost to Rafael Nadal in the final of the US Open in 2017. New Zealand will not participate in Thomas Cup

The New Zealand badminton team has decided to pull out of the 32nd leg of the Thomas Cup Finals, which begins in Bangkok on May 8, after several of its players tested positive for COVID-19. Now in Group D, New Zealand will be replaced by the American badminton team. The game’s governing body BWF said in a statement on Wednesday, “Team New Zealand has decided to withdraw from the BWF Thomas Cup Finals 2022 due to unavailability of several players from their team.” Accordingly, Team America has confirmed its participation and will join Japan, Malaysia and England in Group D. Although the BWF did not reveal the reasons behind the unavailability of New Zealand players, Badminton New Zealand said that the decision was taken after several players tested positive for COVID-19.
