Raina has been an important part of Team India, which became the champion in the year 2011.

There is a shortage of all-rounders in the current team India

Team India won its last ICC tournament by defeating England in the final of the 2013 Champions Trophy. 9 years have passed since then. Team India now has to participate in two ICC tournaments in the next 2 years. Earlier, Suresh Raina has given his reaction about the current Indian team. In a conversation with the Indian Express, he said,

It was because of the many all-rounders in the team that we won the T20 World Cup 2007, World cup 2011 and Champion Trophy 2007. When I started playing Ranji Trophy, I remember our coach Gyanendra Pandey always used to say that you must bowl. This gives the captain the freedom to bowl 8-10 overs and when you have only five bowlers, the problem becomes easier with the sixth bowling option.

Team India must find 6th bowling option

Many such players were present in the Indian team that won the World Champion title by defeating Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2011. Apart from batting fast, he was also adept at taking wickets in the middle overs. Talking about this, Raina said,

In the 2011 World Cup, Veeru Pa, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan and I myself used to bowl. All players could bowl. When we lost the Champions Trophy in 2017 and or recently lost the T20 World Cup, the main reason was that we didn’t have a sixth bowling option.
