For the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia this year, the Indian team is focusing its attention on young pacers like Avesh Khan, Famous Krishna and Umran Malik.
The Indian cricket team has not won any ICC trophy since 2013. Team India also came very close on some occasions, but success did not come in its hands. Last year’s ICC T20 World Cup was the worst performance of the team, where it did not succeed even to cross the group stage. All eyes are on removing the disappointment of that World Cup in the T20 World Cup to be held this year. In such a situation, more bets are being placed on those players who are performing well at every level in the T20 format or who will remain a part of the team in the coming years. Certainly due to this some players will have to lose their place and veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami is one of them.
Gujarat was made IPL champion
Mohammed Shami, who played an important role in increasing the bowling edge of the Indian team in Test cricket, did not play many T20 matches for Team India, but his performance in the last two IPL seasons has been excellent. He was selected in the T20 World Cup due to his strong performance for Punjab Kings in the 2021 IPL, but he failed like the entire team there. He did not get any success and was thrashed fiercely. However, he again performed tremendously in IPL 2022 and played an important role in making Gujarat Titans champion.
Shami not part of the plan, eyes on the youth
In such a situation, it was expected that perhaps Shami could be included in the plans for the T20 World Cup again, but the selectors have a completely different thinking and they have almost closed the doors of the T20 World Cup for Shami. Sports website Inside Sport quoted a selector as saying that they are focusing on young players. This selector said, Shami is not going to be young again and we want to keep him fresh for Test matches. That’s why he is not being seen for T20. After the T20 World Cup, we spoke to Shami about workload management. As of now, he is not a part of the T20 plan and the focus is only on the youngsters.
England series important for these bowlers
Shami has not played any T20 match for Team India anyway since the T20 World Cup. Team India’s eyes are now on young pacers like Avesh Khan, famous Krishna to support Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, who have performed well in recent times. In the T20 series against England, these young pacers will be the most eyed, while Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik will also try to prove themselves.
