The government has set an aggressive target of blending ethanol in petrol. The target of ethanol blending for the year 2021 has been kept at 8.5 percent. Public sector petroleum companies have received a very good response on the tender for the purchase of ethanol for blending in petrol. The government gave this information on Saturday.
The statement issued by the government said, “The first expression of interest for the signing of the long-term agreement for the supply of ethanol with the upcoming dedicated ethanol plants has received an overwhelming response.” 197 bidders participated in it.” Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) published the first EOI on 27 August on behalf of petroleum marketing companies. It opened on 17 September. These bids are currently being evaluated.
Petroleum companies had floated a tender for the purchase of ethanol to gradually increase the blending of ethanol in petrol to 20 percent. The statement said that during the ethanol supply year 2019-20 (December, 2019 to November, 2020), 173 crore liters of ethanol were procured. During this five percent ethanol blending in petrol was achieved. The target is to procure 325 crore liters of ethanol during the supply year 2020-21 (December, 2020 to November, 2021). During this, the target is to bring the mixture to 8.5 percent. So far, 8.01 per cent blending has been achieved on 243 ethanol purchases in 2020-21.
