On the other hand, Mutunga of Kenya came second with a time of 51.71 seconds.

Rupal had to go on hunger strike

This is Rupal’s second medal in this championship. Earlier, he had contributed a lot in getting the silver medal for India’s 4 * 400 mixed relay team. With one silver and one bronze medal, India is jointly ranked 17th in the medal tally. The US topped with 5 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, while Kenya stood second with 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze and South Africa with 2 Gold and 2 Bronze. When Rupal was in school, she once went on a hunger strike to take her father to the stadium in Meerut. Actually she wanted to fulfill her dream of becoming a professional athlete.
