Prior to this year, India's best performance was in the year 1979.  Under the captaincy of veteran player Prakash Padukone, the team reached the semi-finals for the first time. India also reached the quarterfinals 3 times.  In the year 2006, the team adorned with stars like Chetan Anand, Arvind Bhatt reached the quarter-finals.  After this, in the year 2010 also, India reached the quarter-finals.  Commonwealth gold medalist P Kashyap was also included in that team.
