Jean Carroll filed a lawsuit minutes after the law went into effect.

Carroll requested compensation for the pain and suffering caused to her, mental damage, loss of dignity and loss of reputation, and punishment for the accused.

Carroll, who wrote a longtime column for Elle magazine, first alleged in a book published in 2019 that Trump raped her in the dressing room of a luxury department store in Manhattan in late 1995 or early 1996 .

In response to these allegations, Trump said that this could never happen because Carroll is not of my type. After this, Carroll also filed a defamation case against Trump. Earlier, under the law, Carroll was barred from filing a rape lawsuit against Trump because of the passage of several years since the alleged incident.
