Twitter Action! Leena Manimekalai’s tweet related to the poster of the film ‘Kaali’ stopped

Controversy continues over the poster of Leena Manimekalai’s documentary film Kaali. Manimekalai had released the poster of the film Kali through a tweet, about which anger has been seen across the country. The poster of his film depicts a woman wearing a costume, which portrays the goddess Kali. She is smoking a cigarette and holding the flag of the LGBT community in her hand. Taking action, microblogging site Twitter has removed Leena Manimekalai’s controversial tweet dated July 2.

Responding to Twitter’s action, Leena asked in a tweet whether the social media platform would also block posts from ‘hate-spreaders’. He wrote, It is funny. Will @TwitterIndia stop tweets of 200000 haters?! These lowlife trolls tweeted and spread the same poster which they find objectionable.

Although it is not clear when exactly Twitter removed the tweet. That tweet has been replaced by a message from Twitter. It reads that @LeenaManimekali’s tweet has been blocked in India in response to a legal demand.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has been booked for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. His comment on Goddess Kali has sparked controversy. A case has been registered against Moitra in Bhopal under section 295A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

On the other hand, Twitter India has also filed an appeal in the Karnataka High Court against some orders of the Central Government. The company has raised the demand to withdraw some orders of the government regarding the content. Twitter is said to have legally challenged the orders, terming it an abuse of power on the part of the authorities. Twitter has gone to take action on various content including some posts, these include different Khalistan support, protests against agricultural laws and posts criticizing the government in its handling of the corona epidemic. Twitter was also warned last month for not following the orders.
