Actor Varun Dhawan says the Hindi film industry needs to analyze and rethink the kind of content that it believes has affected theatrical business across the world due to the pandemic.
In the year 2022, only three Hindi films ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiya 2’ have managed to emerge as a commercial hit. At the same time, SS Rajamouli’s Telugu epic film ‘RRR’, Kannada action film ‘KGF Chapter 2’ and Allu Arjun’s film ‘Pushpa’ have created new records at the box office of North India. Varun Dhawan ,Varun Dhawan, told PTI that, the filmmakers need to re-establish a connection with the audience, who are now spoiled about options thanks to digital platforms and pan-India theatrical releases.
We have just gone through a pandemic. That’s why you are getting to see movies made years ago. This movie has not started now. But do our manufacturers, do our industry need to pay attention to these mistakes? Yes, of course we need to do this.
Varun Dhawan praised South’s films fiercely
35-year-old actor Varun Dhawan believes that the theater business across the world has been affected during the pandemic. The business of the film needs to rectify its mistakes in general. If you look at the list of Hollywood flop films, then it is very big. But just count the list of bad films of South.
Varun further said, ‘Our industry became a hit. Going to theaters is a public outing, that too has been a hit. That habit has become a hit. We are now making that connection again. Can we make better films? Absolutely yes.
There should be maximum collaboration with talents
Varun said that the current situation calls for more and more creative collaborations with talent from different places across the country. I feel we need to start investing in new talent like writers, directors, producers and actors. We have to start looking at talent from a pan-India perspective. I want to work with a director from Bengal, Kerala, who has all kinds of talent. Tell the story because now it is possible.
The continuous success of South Indian films has made pan-India a topic of discussion in the industry. But Varun says that even with the OTT platform, the audience’s reach is not only on the national boundaries.
He said that, ‘At this time with streaming, it is not only limited to pan-India but to the world. When I was shooting in Germany, I was surprised by the number of people who came up to me and talked about my films, including ‘Sui Dhaaga’… the world is getting smaller now.’
Varun Dhawan will soon be seen in ‘Jugjug Jio’
Directed by Raj Mehta, ‘Jugjug Jio’ is scheduled to release on June 24. Produced through filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film also stars Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Maniesh Paul.
