During a media interview, Atul Kulkarni, along with the difficult task of adapting the film, told that Aamir Khan had refused to read the script of the film for two years.

Recalling the old days, actor Atul Kulkarni says that the adaptation of Forrest Gump started in the year 2008 after the premiere of Aamir Khan’s production film ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’. We all accompanied Aamir Khan for the premiere of this film. At the same time, talk started about the subject of the favorite film.

Atul Kulkarni further told that I and Aamir took the name of Forrest Gump. After this, I watched the DVD of the same film in my house the next day. Since I had free time, I saw this film. During this time I thought that if everything shown in the film was in India then what would be its effect. While watching the film, I thought why not work on its script.

Aamir Khan did not read the script for two years

Atul Kulkarni further says that I finished the script within 10 days and also completed the second draft in the next 3 to 4 days. But the real hard work was yet to begin. As soon as he approached Aamir with his script, the actor did not give him time to read the script. Atul Kulkarni told that Aamir Khan did not even read the script for the first two years. Both the actors were also in touch with each other. Aamir always used to say – ‘Yes, you read.’

After this Aamir said to Atul- ‘You are not a writer and you tell me that you have written the script of Forrest Gump in 15 days. You are my close friend and I do not want to disappoint you by saying that you have written very badly.’ Just because he was not listening to the script. However, Atul convinces Aamir to read it saying that he does not care that Aamir ‘trash’ it after reading it.
