At the 41st annual convocation of Mangalore University, 79-year-old Prabhakar was awarded the PhD degree in Materials Science. Prabhakar is a visiting faculty member at Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore. He has been teaching students for more than four decades. He took admission in PhD in Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering, affiliated to Mangalore University.

What did Prabhakar say after getting the degree?

On being awarded the PhD degree, Kuppahalli said, “It was my long-standing dream to do PhD. However, I had planned to do this only when I was working in the US in the early days of my career. But due to some reasons I could not do this. He further said, ‘But when I turned 75, I decided to get a PhD degree once again. In 2017, I took admission for PhD in Materials Science and after five years I finally fulfilled my dream.

Prabhakar further said that his PhD would not have been possible without the support of his guide R Keshavamurthy. He is a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department in his own college. He said, ‘Keshavmurthy motivated me a lot to fulfill my dream.’ Prabhakar currently assists undergraduate and postgraduate students in research. His son is working in the IT sector.

Prabhakar Kuppahalli was born on March 1, 1944. He obtained his engineering degree in 1966 from IISc Bangalore. He worked in IIT Bombay for a few years and then went to work in America. Prabhakar earned his master’s degree in 1976 from the University of Pittsburgh. He also worked in America for 15 years before returning to India.
