Lahmann was a middle-order batsman and could also bowl left-arm spin when needed. He was a regular member of the team in ODIs but his career in Tests could not take off much, while he scored five centuries in 27 Test matches for Australia and averaged 44.95. In ODIs, he played 117 matches for Australia and scored 3078 runs at an average of 38.96. During this, four centuries and 17 half-centuries came out of his bat.
Three time world champion
Lahmann is one of the few players who have won the Cricket World Cup as a player and coach. Australia won the ODI World Cup in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015. Lehmann was a part of three of these World Cup victories. In 1999, when Australia won the World Cup under the captaincy of Steve Waugh, Lahmann was a part of this team. In 2003, Lahmann was part of the Australian team captained by Ricky Ponting and this team won the World Cup by defeating India in the final. After this, Lahmann was successful in making Australia the world champion as a coach. In 2015, when Australia won the fifth World Cup under the captaincy of Michael Clarke, Lahmann was the coach of the team. Australia defeated England 5–0 in the 2013 Ashes series under his coach.
